You learned to fly with a panel like this:
And now you will fly a TAA Panel:
Flying a TAA panel can be a great situational awareness tool, but also presents some new challenges that we need to understand. There are many pages of displays and gotchas that need to be worked through. You have a LOT more information at your fingertips. Your engine monitor alone will pay dividends...if you know how to use it beyond basic leaning that you learned in flight school. Add to that a PFD/MFD and there is a lot to learn.
New focus areas:
- Where are all those pages and settings?
- Are you displaying the information you “think” you are displaying
- What information is critical and what information is optional?
- Why does the iPad information look different from the panel?
- Where is the traffic alerts? How do we use the weather information?
Special attention on engine monitors:
- Updated Mag Check Procedures
- Leaning, Leaning, Leaning
- Interpreting CHT vs EGTs (Mag Issue, Clogged Injector, Etc)
- Protection from Detonation/PreIgnition (A Real Engine Killer)
